Sweet Dreams of Wilkes Project, led by the Teen Action Council (TAC) of WYLD. WYLD’s Teen Action Council provides youth a place where they can discuss and maneuver daily life obstacles and challenges with peers. TAC is a youth-led and adult guided program that strives to create youth connections, provide community outreach, and support youth advocacy. They do this by giving youth a voice, providing youth an outlet, and showing youth their reason.

At the heart of this initiative lies a simple yet profound mission: “Giving kids the nights rest that they truly deserve.” Sweet Dreams of Wilkes addresses a fundamental need—providing clean, cozy, and age-appropriate sleeping arrangements for children aged 5 to 18. Collaborating closely with the Wilkesboro Police Department, Wilkes County Schools, Wilkes County DSS, and dedicated volunteers, we identify families facing the most pressing circumstances and deliver twin-sized beds complete with fresh mattresses, sheet sets, comforters, and pillows directly to their doorsteps.

But our commitment doesn’t stop at the bed frame! Each child receives a selection of 2-3 books, promising to whisk them away to far-off lands and adventures as they drift into slumber.

What sets us apart is the involvement of our dedicated youth team. Committed to making a tangible difference, they not only construct and deliver the beds but infuse every delivery day with a spirit of jubilation. Joining forces with some of Wilkes County’s finest adult leaders, our team of youth leaders transform these occasions into celebrations of unity and compassion.

Sweet Dreams of Wilkes isn’t just about providing a place to rest; it’s about nurturing a sense of belonging, igniting imaginations, and fostering bonds that ripple throughout our community. Together, we are sowing the seeds of hope and resilience, one bedtime story at a time.
